Inspired equally by classic Sudanese synth music, Black Sabbath and Disco – Gitkin’s new single “The One” combines Tuareg style guitars + big distorted riffs that meet an electronic arpeggiating Morodor style bassline and drums inspired by the early aughts Williamsburg Indie Sleaze sound. Culminating in a hill country blues groove, it’s a mash of influences that shouldn’t make sense, but under the vision of producer + one man band Brian J it somehow works, and pretty well at that.
