After the release of his critically acclaimed album “Bennu” in 2017, Thornato returns to Wonderwheel with a sundrenched crossover EP touching on the intersection between Jamaica, West Africa, Trinidad, New York and LA – perfect for global Carnival dancefloors worldwide. The EP kicks with the 90s dancehall & Afropop inspiredsingle “Back It Up” featuring Ghanaian vocalist Zongo Abongo, working over a heavy bassline and a big dembow beat…incredibly catchy and sticky, this one is already bubblin’ in the dancehalls of Lagos & Accra. Next up “Chaka Chaka” features similar vibes with it’s Afropop influenced guitar line, driving drums and vocals from NY by way of Sierra Leone artist Bajah of the Dry Eye Crew, while “No Problem”, a sweeter, more sentimental track that’s still firmly on the dancefloor featuring Zongo Abongo and Kongo Elektro (who were featured on “Deux a Deux”, one of the hits from Thornato’s album). Rounding out the EP, LA producer Yukicito (who is currently on a tear with his remixes) gives “Chaka Chaka” a funky, heavy reversioning – extending the drums and guitar loops and throwing a little psychdelic haze on top.
